In this blog you can expect to see posts related to business, which is my area of interest, but more specifically about marketing, studying abroad and business career.
I was reading an article in the Business Insider website, which discuss about differences between successful and unsuccessful people. This article was inspired by a LinkedIn post from a CEO. The article itself is based on a image that has some things that people do that can differentiate them.
I realized that this was a very meaningful image that brought me a lot of thoughts:
I invite you to look over this image and also think about this actions in your life: How do you do them nowadays? Which one did you liked the most? Which one would you start to do different?
For me the ones that I liked the most were:
Set goals: this is something that I do on my everyday, I set goal for the day, for the week and also for the month. This way I create some expectations and inceptive to do things.
Keep a journal: besides the goals that I plan, I also keep a journal that I can register my ideas, thoughts and also things to do.
Fear change: this is something that I definitely don't do on my life, I have many examples that show how I changed and went out of my comfort zone. So this can help me be successful.
Forgive people: this is one that I am working hard to do and make be part of my life. I do not have the ease to forgive people because I am proud in the extreme level, so is difficult for me do come back and forgive someone, but I am trying.

Remix of the knowledge, is when you put an information that you want to delivery in a blended format, like mixing words, music, colors, shapes.. It can be a website, a video, a sculpture, a music.., since it delivers its message
Here we are going to analyze a remix project, it is a video that was made by a consulting company from California. This remix project has the intention to attack people for their internship program. However they don't do this in a very nice and professional way. Lets analyze it in topics:
Revision: the topic revised here is the good aspects of this company, they share some of the words that guide their work in the beginning of the video. But what look like is that they just make this words lose all the meaning after the they show what the inters are doing and there is nothing to do with what they showed previously.
Arrangement: this project is arranged a way that in the beginning of the video you do not expect to see what you are going to see. Because they start the video in a much formal way than they end. They show aspects of a serious company, show certificates and organization environment. However after the music start it changes completely, it become a very unprofessional and disorganized idea.
Invention: this remix transmits a creative message, the invention here is that they put some aspects of the company in a way that they can fit to the music and also into the images that they want to show.
Delivery: this remix is delivered in the form of a video on YouTube, this might be a good delivery just if they are willing to share this video trough other medias. Because YouTube is not a place that people go to find job and professional opportunities.
Style: the style is totally inappropriate to the situation. It uses a very unprofessional style during most part of the video, which is not a good idea since this is a video that is willing to acquire candidates for an internship program. They also use images that show unprofessionalism inside of the company, transmuting the idea that this is not a serious company at all.
This way you can check the video and analyze by yourself what do you think. I would say that they did not achieved their goal with this video, which was to attack people for their internship program. If they did attracted some people, they should have reached the company with an image of irresponsibility, lack of commitment, party and fun, nothing of a professional and serious company.

I am a big fan of Brand's and Company's histories, but nike story fascinates me because they started with no hope that this would become a Nike company. It was inside of a university that it started, an athlete of track and field, Philip Knight, founded the company named Blue Ribbon Sport together with his coach, Bill Bowerman.
In the beginning they did not have any own production they sold shoes made by a company from Japan, that nowadays is called ASICS. So Nike sold ASICS one day. After the two inicial man, a runner enter in the story, Jeff Johnson, who was the first employer of the company. He did the first ad and marketing material for the company and he also brought the name Nike.
The Nike check, their symbol the swoosh, came in the same year of the name 1971 and it was designed by a graphic designer student. Her name is Carolyn Davidson and she was in a class that Philip Knight was the professor, this way she did some works for his company in that time and came up with the logo that would be one of the most famous symbols in the world.
After they broke up with the Japanese company they started to develop their own material and in 1972 they came with a new footwear line. This was part of a U.S. Track and Field Trials. Around the 80's Nike was in a very successful period, because ether launched the Nike Air technology that exists and is a success until now. In 1988 the most famous tagline of the company and maybe of all the times came up, "Just do it".
Nike started to spread to many sports and teams in 1994 it sponsor some players on the World Cup that was won by the Brazilian Team. And the year after this Nike signed the entire team and started to design all the team material.
What amaze me the most in this kinds of history is that you realize that everything starts truly from the bottom. You can never predict what is going to happened in your future. I am sure that many companies started just a Nike, Apple or any other one from the big, and did not became successful, but these ones did they started with random people that had a goal in their mind and wanted to try it. This stimulates me sometimes to consider more the idea of entrepreneurship, maybe in the future I can start my own business as well.

I always had an attraction for marketing, because this is fascinating huge. The fact that there is a science behind many small things that we overlook sometimes, makes it a huge field. I was reading an article that discuss the science of colors in marketing. This article makes us think about the huge importance that marketing has, because it surrounds our everyday life during all the time. Every where you go there is a sign of some brand, there is a product or even just a flyer, but still all of this have a marketing concept behind. In all of this thing there was someone behind it searching, studying and creating, since the type of letter of the package until the advertising campaign. Marketing field is very broad and it is important for companies and brands, but it is also for people. Because in some way you want people to look for you in a certain mode, in a job interview you will deal with you own marketing, in the beginning of a relationship, in your social media.. you will do some strategies that are not formal but still they are trying to sell your idea. People also look for ways that they can show better and accomplish their goal. This article specifically treats about the colors in the brands logos, in products and in many other things, and work specifically with colors is not the main thing that marketing does. However this served to make me realize how important my field is because it covers many aspects that involves peoples life, since a marketing campaign for a company until the way that people also promote themselves in daily life. I always have been very interested when in doing the practicing of things and since I got in college has not been different.
In my first year of college in Brazil I was very excited and prepared to many opportunities. When you start in the university people are designated to show you all possibilities inside of the institution, and that is when the best experience of my life started. In one of the presentations that we were having, people from the Junior Enterprise that was located inside of the Business College came and presented the company for students and said that their selection process was going to start.
I was amazed by that idea of the junior movement, where students work in a company made of students and receive help from the professors of the college. This way I applied and was accepted, it was a real company process we had interviews, group dynamics and also a trainee period, period when you develop a project during the first two months to show if you are able to work on the company or not.
This was a very huge hands-on experience because I was in a company that had the format of a real small company, with some directors, two presidents and counselors. All the work that I developed during the whole year was very broad, I developed some internal projects that served to improve the internal operation of the organization and also the major projects that are external and deal with real clients.
For the major projects I worked in a business consulting for a Shoes company of the region, they needed a market research in a certain area of the city to see wether it was worth to open a new store in that area.
The project was realized by a manager and two consulters, and I was one of them. Together with my partners we did meetings with the client, listened their problem and guilted a plan for the consulting. The foundation for this project was the questionaries that we applied with more than 400 people over that specific area, for more than a week. This was a hard job, but very interesting because we could listened to people's reaction and analyze how they refer to the market. After this collection of data we had to analyze all the data and develop a big report that was going to be the final product for the client.
The report was a professional one that followed many rules from our company and many patterns. Beside the report we also delivered a presentation for all the director of the Shoes Company explaining our results and what was the final response about having a market or not
The experience when it comes to hands-on was amazing because it gave me a professional base since the first semester of university. But the personal experience that I had inside of the company was much more impressive, I related with people that I became my friends out side of the company, I also improved many aspect of my personality and of my life.
All the students that are part of a Junior Enterprise are differentiated, because they are working with things that you will learn just later in college and they create a strong base for when it comes the time to have this inside of classroom. After the 3 first months I could already see the difference inside of the classroom, other students were not worried with nothing not even the class and not they life, about adding experience out of the classroom. And I was already working in many projects, working with many people and also handling school well.
During the month of February of 2014 happened
the XXII Olympic Winter Games, which took place at Sochi, Russia. During
the event this year came out a big controversy, the Olympic Committee
decided to explore their equality culture through homosexuality.
However the host country has an opposite culture, and is extremely against homosexuality and even more about showing this to
the population. Russia has many policies that have a traditional and homophobic
appeal.
During the Winter Games this discussion came out as being a big fight among the world, and even companies were pressured to take a position about this subject and state
their side of the story.
There are many sides
of this story that should be considered even when we analyze through the
Marketing side. This problem emerged from a lack of care of the
creators of this new strategy for the Olympics Winter Game. The Committee should have consider how
broad this event is and also that they are being hosted by a traditional
country that have their own laws and policies about it. When we are
dealing with a global market it is very difficult and risky to deal with
delicate subjects of the society. Even more when you are under a
countries law that go against you.
Other than the controversy about Russia being
unfair or not and the Committee being right or not, it reached the
companies sphere. With all the protests around the world against Russia
position, the population asked for companies to declare their side. Some companies made a declaration about it, as
McDonald's.
"McDonald’s supports the spirit of the
Olympic Games and its ability to unite the world in a positive and
inspirational way. We’ve been a proud sponsor of the Olympic Games for 37
years. Regarding the recent Russian legislation, we support the
International Olympic Committee’s belief that sport is a human right and the
Olympic Games should be open to all, free of discrimination, and that applies
to spectators, media, and athletes."(Taylor and Murphy)
